First time out for me with Damon and the Cattaraugus. He knows the water and trails to get there like the back of his hand. Well experienced to get you on fish for an awesome and safe day of fishing. If I can find time off work and return to the Catt next steelhead season, I will most definitely book with Damon again! I recommend him highly without reservation.

My wife Joan and I just finished our 6th trip with Damon, this time on the Clarion River in Pa. Great time with a terrific guide ( and an even better person)..We caught lots of big fish on a beautiful fall day. He knows the water and the bugs, gives us gentle advice and makes the day a lot of fun. We will be back for more trips, on any water Damon suggests. I highly recommend him to you. This was my first time to Elicottville and first time fly fishing. My wife bought this trip for my dad and I for Father’s Day of last year as a gift for my first Father’s Day and for my dad. It was a nice Father/Son outing. Damon is super knowledgeable yet humble and patient. He showed a willingness to bear with us and teach us some of the basics of fly fishing so that next time we can build off of a good starting foundation. We started out early at sunrise on a beautiful fall day near the PA/NY border in western NY (about 1 hour from the town) and moved around along the river throughout the day, first going a bit downstream then about two miles up. Damon checked our preferences first to see what we would be okay with doing as far as hiking. We love hiking but, of course, if you don’t like it that is okay because he showed willingness to work around our preferences. We caught some nice rainbow trout (I think) and they put up a fight. Never would have thought such a big fish was hidi...

About us

Whether you’re interested in chasing steelhead in the waters of western New York or drifting limited access stretches of the Clarion River in northwestern Pennsylvania in pursuit of wild browns, Damon Newpher knows the fish and the water. He fished the Upper Clarion as a child with his grandfather, ventured west to guide in Montana as a young man, and returned to helm the Orvis-awarded Glendorn Lodge fishing and hunting operation for more than a decade. For those who set their sights farther afield, Damon has hosted trips to Belize, Mexico, and The Bahamas, and he keeps a bag packed and local guides at the ready.   Now based in Ellicottville, New York, Damon brings the unique combination of fishing expertise and hospitality experience to every adventure. From deftly navigating his ClackaCraft between proven holes to grilling mid-day steaks along a quiet riverbank, every detail is patiently anticipated for anglers of all skill levels.   And speaking of angling, when the steelhead are running, Damon will be wading into the fray along Cattaraugus Creek and the Lower Niagara River, just to name a couple. Depending on the season and the weather, though, he will also be fishing for  salmon, musky, pike, and smallmouth bass, on lakes and rivers across western New York and northwestern Pennsylvania.   Half- and full-day trips are available, equipment is provided, and itineraries can be tailored to suit ambitions, abilities, and conditions.
